I created this outline as a possible format that you can follow to help use one mentor text across all of the ELA subjects. This is only a suggestion, and certainly won’t apply to every skill every week. For instance, there are certainly writing pieces that will take longer than a week to write, or longer than a day to introduce the writing concept. Also, there may be times when it is necessary for students to complete a comprehension activity during the first read of the mentor text (with predicting, inferring, and synthesis, for example). This is only a possible framework with suggestions, and you should not feel that this is the ONLY way to use a mentor text!
