Fractions (Improper)

This is the second unit of two fraction units – it focuses on improper fractions and mixed numbers. You can get the Proper Fractions Unit here. This unit provides small group concrete lesson ideas as well as activities that can be completed as stations or independently. It is aligned to 4th grade Common Core Math Standards, but can easily be adapted to 3rd or 5th.

In this unit, students will: represent and read proper fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers; represent equivalent common fractions; add and subtract proper fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers; decompose an improper fraction into a sum of fractions; and multiply fractions by whole numbers through the use of provided lessons, games, independent activities, and center task cards.
