The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming is a fun fall-themed picture book to use to introduce the seasons changing to autumn. If you don’t own a copy of the book, check your local library or you might even find an online read-aloud of the text with a simple Google search!

I love all the Mentor Sentences from Jivey. They are such a great way to teach grammar and other language arts materials. My kiddo loved doing these activities to go with one of our favorite fall picture books.
Day 1 lessons for reading and writing were used as part of my substitute teacher lesson plans. The positives for me include ease in set-up/prep work; high student engagement around the fun story; lessons targeted the reading and writing lessons/curriculum that I teach on a daily basis. This unit is a fun way to engage students in the fall months, and it requires minimal teacher prep.
