Groundhog Weather School by Joan Holub is an informative book about groundhogs, Groundhog Day, and weather, but it’s presented in an entertaining way that will keep your students laughing while they learn. If you don’t own a copy of the book, check your local library or you might even find an online read-aloud of the text with a simple Google search!
Using mentor texts is one of the best ways to maximize your teaching time. You are able to teach multiple skills, subjects, and topics with just one book!

This was a great tie-in for Groundhog Day. The order of working on vocabulary, note-taking, writing, etc, was good and kept things fresh each day. My only wish for the mentor sentence units is that there was an easier way to print the teacher materials and then multiple copies of the student worksheets... and I wish the "at a glance" for each day listed the names of the worksheets to use that day for each element of the lesson. Kids enjoyed the book a lot and learned a lot of facts in a fun format!
My students enjoyed the information learned while using this resource. I used most of the activities included. The instructions were clear and easy to follow.
It was nice to find groundhog activities for older kids. My students were definitely not bored.
