Grammar in Context works on sentences. Students see how a skill like prepositional phrases or vivid verbs makes writing clearer for a reader.

Revision Mini-Lessons work on the whole piece. Students learn named moves, like strengthening a lead or swapping vague words for specific ones.

Teach both in your writing block, and students use the same steps for each.

How the grammar and writing lessons work

Every unit in both series follows the same path: students notice a move in a model, revise with it, and then apply it on their own.

• Grammar in Context: Each skill is taught in two genres, narrative (an original story or poem) and nonfiction (an original passage). In Option 1, students compare two versions of the text and notice how the skill improves it. In Option 2, they revise the text themselves, and in the nonfiction lesson, they use a provided fact sheet to keep their revisions accurate. Application activities on the same theme come next.
• Revision Mini-Lessons: Students study a model passage and judge how well it uses one craft move. Then they practice that move in exploration and application activities, in both opinion and informational writing. A checklist and rubric for each strategy help students bring the move into their own drafts.

Why teach grammar and revision together

Grammar taught on its own tends to stay on the worksheet. When students revise a real passage with a skill and then apply it, they see what that skill does for a reader. Pairing sentence-level grammar with whole-piece revision gives students two ways to improve a draft, using steps they already know.

No. Everything you need to teach these lessons is in this bundle.
