American Revolution Heroes

This reading and writing integration unit covers the following heroes:
Benjamin Franklin
George Washington
Samuel Adams
Paul Revere
Patrick Henry
Thomas Paine
John Hancock
Betsy Ross

Everything is provided as printable PDFs as well as digital formats in Google Slides!

There are summaries of the heroes in several different styles. You should use the ones that fit best in your classroom, but here are some suggestions of how I use them: The color posters can be printed and laminated to be used as “research cards.” They can also be projected on your board. The black and white full sheet pages can be used to practice note-taking: pulling out only key phrases to write on the scroll. The black and white half sheet pages can be glued into notebooks for interactive note-taking or for close reading annotations. I’m sure there are other ways you could use them, too!

There is a puzzle piece activity that students could complete independently or you could print on cardstock and laminate for a center, or as a whole group activity (find your match).

There is a Scavenger Hunt activity to use with the summaries of the heroes.

There are also writing prompt pages to write about how the heroes affected other heroes’ lives.

Please look at the preview to see a snapshot of the unit!
