Harley The Hero by Peggy Collins is inspired by a true story and a great way to celebrate the work of service dogs. If you don’t own a copy of the book, check your local library or you might even find an online read-aloud of the text with a simple Google search!

Using mentor texts is one of the best ways to maximize your teaching time. You are able to teach multiple skills, subjects, and topics with just one book!

With this unit, you’ll be able to integrate fiction and nonfiction texts as well as informational videos to gather information, compare and contrast, write an explanatory piece, and review proper nouns.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THIS UNIT?

• a week of plans that teach about gathering information for an explanatory piece, comparing and contrasting characters and information presented, integrate media (videos) with text, and review proper nouns using the book, Harley The Hero by Peggy Collins (book not included)
