Aaaaah, my weekends are going by so fast now that I’m back in school! It’s so sad! But, of course, I can’t let a weekend go by without linking up to my cuties!!
Today, I want to share a book I use to get Writing Workshop started:
The book shows how a writer must write from their brain and their heart. In the book, the little girl is trying to write the best story- one that will win a contest. Everyone in her family has different ideas about what makes a story “the best.” Finally though, she realizes the best story is one that is her own!
The illustrations as her story changes are hilarious, too!! :o)
After reading the story and having a quick discussion about the reason the author wrote this book, I would have them get started on generating seed ideas in their Writing Notebooks- listing things that are important to them.
I think this book is also a great reminder to us as teachers, too, when it comes time to confer with them. We need to make sure we are helping to guide them to become better writers, but not editing and revising FOR THEM because then it becomes OUR story!
Don’t forget to head over to my Facebook page to enter today’s giveaway- featuring the Collaboration Cuties!! :o)
