Meet the Peach Jessica Ivey AKA jivey.
My name is Jessica Ivey, but I'm affectionately known as jivey! I've taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. I LOVE children's books and novels, so I use mentor texts to teach across the curriculum. I'm a mommy to two doggies, a minion-lover, and I love anything that involves food... no really...my favorite pastimes always seem to involve eating!

Wednesday was Earth Day, and my kids had a BLAST creating a new invention to help the Earth thanks to Matt at Digital Divide and Conquer's awesome PBL Activity!!

First, my student teacher worked with them to brainstorm areas of need...

Then they got busy! What I love most about these types of activities is that my usual "top scholars" or "high flyers" aren't always the ones who come up with the most creative ideas... as you'll see below. Excuse the spelling but check out their awesome inventions!!!

If you haven't been taking Brain Breaks this year, it's not too late to start!! Sign up- it's free! The kids love it, and it's pretty amusing for the teacher, too. :-P
Last... I have some exciting news- you must come back Sunday to see what it's all about!! But here's a little hint. :o)

I hope your week was awesome! See you soon!

I'm so excited to link up with some awesome bloggers to bring you a fun bright idea!
Bright Idea - paint the ceiling with Ideas by Jivey.
Six years ago, a room mom gave me a gift that I absolutely loved: a painted ceiling tile!

All of my kids helped to paint it, which made it really special. They love looking at their artwork up there, too, and even come back to visit after they've moved on to the next grade to see it! And of course, each new class gets to admire the tiles!

If your building has drop ceilings, the tiles are very easy to take in and out, and inexpensive, too! (Although my custodian will just give me one if I ask for it...) I decided I wanted one every year to display. Some years, my room mom made it with my kids, and some years, I did.

I have found acrylic paints work the best. I also use sharpies to outline or write after the paint is dry.

It's a creative, fun thing for the kids to "give" you that you can keep forever- no matter how many times you move rooms! The tiles just come right down and move with you!

I think this year, my kids have convinced me that we need minions on the ceiling... check back in a few weeks to see what we decide to do! :o)

My Spring Break is coming to an end today, which means my school year is also coming to an end... only 29 school days left for us!

Unfortunately, that also means all consistency and sense of normalcy goes out the window... so take deep breaths and prepare yourself for some things!

First up for us...
Standardized Testing
When spring break is over humor with Ideas by Jivey.
This is what we wish we could do, yes?

But, let's all be professional and pass out the test booklets one at a time... and get ready to walk!

Don't be a testing anomaly...Wear comfortable shoes!

Oh and the hormones?? What happens to these kids in springtime??

You're too young, kids.

And by this time of year, if they aren't kissing, they're fighting.

Can't we all just get along?!?!

And we know, this time of year...
EVERYTHING is a distraction...

Oh yes... and then my favorite day?
Field Day

...where all the non-athletic kids have to participate in athletic events.

Warm, pretty days
makes everything harder...

Alarm in the morning?

As difficult as these things might be, it's just like ripping off a band-aid. Just do it and get it over with.

And remember...
Summer is almost here!

Hello again, friends! Starting Friday at 3:15, I'm on Spring Break (woohoo!!!) and for the first time EVER, I already have my entire week planned for the week we return! What?! No, really!!! I do!

We are learning about animal adaptations in science, so when we return, we'll be using all three of Sandra Markle's awesome "What If You Had" books!

I have created activities that go along with our adaptation unit for the students to complete as we read each book book, and you can download each one for free!

For each animal, the author includes what would happen if YOU had that animal's hair, so I will wait to read that part until the students give their own ideas about each animal.

I hope you enjoy these freebies, and these books! My kids absolutely loved "Teeth" and "Hair," so I knew I had to get "Feet" when it was released earlier this year! If you have followed my blog since last year, you might already have the teeth freebie, but don't forget about the other great book from the same blog post last year, What Do You Do With A Tail Like This? There's a freebie in the post for this awesome book, too! :o)
