Sparking Student Motivation - Magazines

Time to link up with one of my favorites! Joanne at Head Over Heels for Teaching is amazing- if you aren't following her already, you should be!

Over the summer, I found some deals for National Geographic for Kids, Ask, and Kids Discover, and I ordered them all!! I just got my copy of Ask in the mail today.
When we go to the media center to check out, I have found that students love to go hang out with the magazines after they get their books. I thought it would be awesome for them to have some in the classroom to read, and of course, the ones I got are good Science and Social Studies based ones, so I'm happy they are getting more nonfiction reading in. :) If kids are more motivated to read a magazine, I want to give them magazines to read!
Kiddos reading = happy teacher. :o)

Watch for deals on Educents and Plum District! That's where I found these deals!

  1. My kiddos love having magazines in the classroom. Another favorite of my boys is Sports Illustrated for Kids, I haven't found a deal on it yet though...I'm hoping one pops up soon!

  3. I use a lot of magazines in my room too. I always put a year's subscription to Ranger Rick, Zoobooks, etc. on my wish list in hopes that a parent will pick it up! Love Plum District!

  4. I got the Kids Discovery, but Sports Illustrated for Kids and the others sound awesome. I even got a display bookshelf for them. I am excited to implement the magazines this year as well! :) Let me know if you see any other deals on them!

  5. I've never heard of Ask-which magazine is it most like? I agree, magazines are very motivating to kids-especially if they get it in the mail! Do you get the Highlights order form? Great incentives for teachers! Thanks for linking up sweet friend!
