Bloglovin' Update - Hopefully It Will Help You!

Ok, friends. I feel a little better about Bloglovin' now that I've played with it a bit. I wanted to share some things with you!

Brown Bag Teacher has a great tutorial to create your account... check it out if you haven't set up an account already.

First of all, if you chose to log in with Facebook when you created your account, your REAL name will show as your profile name. If you want to change this, follow these easy steps AFTER you have claimed your blog... if you haven't claimed your blog, follow step 1 below and it will come up with a "claim my blog" button. Follow the directions they give you for this, then proceed to step 2. :)

1. Click the down arrow on the right, next to the search blogs bar. Click on "my blog."

2. Click on the name of your blog, which should be in bold:

3. At the top right, it tells who the blog is written by... if you don't want it to say your name, click on your name. It will take you to your profile.

4. Click Edit Profile, then change your "Full Name." Scroll down and hit save settings... that's it!

Now to see your followers (which is why you might want to change your name to your blog name...when you view followers, it shows the name on their profile) - go back to the arrow at the top and click My Blog.

When it opens, click the name of your blog...

Then when your blog page opens, click on the followers, and your followers will be listed there!

UNFORTUNATELY, you can't see ALL the followers, only the most recent ones... :( Hopefully they correct this! But you can get an email notifying you every time someone adds your blog! Back under that drop-down arrow, click on settings. Scroll all the way down to notifications and make sure the box is checked:

Yes, it says "Send me AND email when..." - grammar police, where are you??? :-P  Make sure to save settings! A few of us bloggers have gotten together and decided to email bloglovin' support (under contact us) about getting the followers issue fixed. We figure if enough of us ask, we'll get what we want!! :) So if you're a blogger, shoot them an email!

Another really great feature of Bloglovin' is making groups- you can do this under "Manage My Blogs." I have started doing this so I can quickly read through the updates of certain types of blogs. BUT- do NOT re-import your blogs from Google or it will erase all your groups that you created!

If you need to add a button to your blog, it's in that same dropdown menu on the top-right... it actually adds the widget for you! All you have to do is go in to your layout and move it down (it adds it to the very top).

I know change is hard, and I went kicking and screaming, believe me... but it seems like maybe it won't be SO bad... :o)  Hope this was helpful!

  1. I have been using it for two weeks and so far it seems fine. I didn't know I could see who was following my blog so thank you for that information. Can we post to our blogs from Bloglovin'? I still keep clicking back on Blogger to do that. Thanks for your post, Heather

    1. Bloglovin is only a reader, as far as I know. You'll still have to go through blogger to post I believe!

  2. Great post Jessica! Thanks for doing the research and sharing your experience with us!

  3. Thanks for the tips! I didn't realize I could see who my followers were.

  4. I've already emailed them twice. Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything back from them. Hopefully that means they are busy working on fixing the bugs.

  5. Thank you! That was not so bad:) A special thanks regarding the name issue! This is one time when being a newbie isn't so bad, my Google Reader and Bloglovin' follower counts are almost the same - can you hear me crying?:)))

  6. Jivey, It looks like when you import your reader list it does not automatically mean you are "following" on Bloglovin'. As I scroll down the feed, when my cursor is on the blog name a pop up opens - some say following, and others give me the option to follow. Did I do something wrong?

    1. No you didn't- that may just be a bug with importing. :( I guess go through and follow those? Sorry! I don't know!!

    2. I had the same thing happen to me. I was so confused cause I KNEW I already followed those blogs. I started to panic and go through and hit "follow" for each one. Then I'd scroll back up and the "follow" button would pop up AGAIN! But..... all those blogs are still on my long list on the right, so I'm assuming it's all good. Hopefully!
I agree..... it's not so bad! I actually kind of like scrolling through my blogs this way!

  7. Another thing I wish they'd do is add an "Education" category. It's annoying that we're stuck in the Other category. I'd already planned to e-mail them about the followers and the category complaint! Good to hear others are too. Maybe if the wheel squeaks enough, you know?

  8. Thank you for the information!!!

I have a question, and thought I'd ask you in case I am just missing this option...when reading your blog feed in Google Reader, as you scrolled by them it would mark them as read, I can't figure out how to do this on Blog Lovin' except by clicking "Mark as Read" for EACH one. Oy! Its killing me! Am I missing a setting for this?

  9. Thanks so much for the info! I emailed bloglovin' today & received a reply saying that they are, in fact, currently working making all of our followers visible, instead of just the 20. Yay! They say it's been approved and in the works :) The "education" category is being discussed at their next meeting, or so I was told. Yay for bloggers bonding together! The lady said she had receive hundreds of emails about both of these things in the last two days!

  10. Thanks for the help! I was recommended to view your page by Diane over at Fifth in the Middle and all of your info was very easy to follow and I now have a Bloglovin account with minimal hassle involved!

  11. I guess taking the month of June off to get my daughter graduated, party for her, and look for places to live at college, I am super duper confused! Can anyone explain to me the difference between following someone on blogger, google, blog network, and now bloglovin? On my blog, I have so many ways people can follow me and it is driving me nuts!
