Some Hard News To Swallow...

I had every intention of linking up with Holly today, but it doesn't feel right at the moment. (Sorry Holly!!)

I received some hard-to-handle news today, and just felt like sharing it instead. I have said before, teachers are such supportive, wonderful people, but teacher bloggers are the BEST. I know that our community will be supportive and send thoughts and prayers steadily for another fellow teacher...

A fellow teacher friend of mine, who I have been fortunate to call a friend now for almost 6 years, has cancer. It started as a rare, aggressive form of lung cancer, which then moved to her brain in March. A couple of weeks ago, she got an infection, which wasn't good... and she has now been put in hospice. :(

She has been through SO much over the last few years, and in spite of it all, is the most POSITIVE person I know. I first met her at my old school. I came to know her as a child advocate, and she was my go-to for any child that I was trying to get services for, or just get help with in the classroom. (She is a special education teacher.) Then she left my old school, but thanks to Facebook and Words With Friends, we never lost touch. She ended up at my current school, and she was the reason that I took the job at my current school. There have been some definite trying times this school year, but through it all, she stays positive and encouraging and inspirational to everyone around her. Through ALL that she has been dealing with, I have never once heard her complain.

I am so lucky to call her my friend. She calls me her Doppleganger. :) Although 20ish years separate us in age, we are like two peas in a pod sometimes.

Thank you for letting me share this with you. If you are so inclined, please send thoughts and prayers to this wonderful woman and her family. It is all she has ever asked from us...

  5. I will keep her (and her family and friends) in my prayers. It sounds as though she is one of God's angels on Earth. May he keep her in his arms during her final journey. May her journey to her final home and resting place be as painless as possible, for we know the amazing place that she will soon be and know that her angelic work will continue from up above. 9. Thank you all so much!!! I really debated on writing this post because I really wasn't looking for sympathy for ME (although I am sad), but for prayers for her... but I just know that putting it out there in a forum like a blog would get her prayers from across the country, so I didn't want to pass it up. I went to see her tonight and it was so good to hug her and laugh with her- she was doing ok tonight. Thank you again for the support and most importantly, prayers, peace, and strength for her and her family!

  15. How blessed you are to have a positive force in your life! You will always carry her memories with you. Sending prayers and hugs! Would it help her spirits if we (blogging community) sent her cards of encouragement? [You know you always see those requests on FB for kids. Why not for a fellow teacher?] What do you think? Just a thought!

  25. Oh, Jivey! I am so sad to read this news:( It just breaks my heart. I know what you mean by age separating two coworkers but being two peas in a pod anyway. Age doesn't matter for kindred spirits. I like Kristin's idea above too. As a teacher, it is always nice to know other teachers are praying for us and sending love.
