Feeling the Love Five For Friday Flashback! :) - Ideas By Jivey: For the Classroom

Feeling the Love Five For Friday Flashback! :)

Happy Friday! Time to link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching and Teaching Maddeness!
Unfortunately, I got the crud (probably from one of my little angels...) and was sick all weekend... my honey got me these lovelies:
...and I was still sick on Monday, so I missed the first day of Teacher Appreciation Week with my kiddos.
But I returned Tuesday to the biggest bouquet of flowers ever! :) Yes, they are in a beach pail! :-P

Oh yes. YES YES YES. I was able to get Justin Timberlake pre-sale tickets for myself and the LOVELY Brittany from Closing the Gap...In a Cute Outfit... and not just any ol' seats. FLOOR SEATS!! What what?!??! We are gonna dance and scream like teenage girls. AWESOMENESS.

Wednesday was our Field Day and although my class is not the most athletic bunch... we still had a blast! AND.... get ready.... we were Tug Of War Champions!!! I don't have any pictures because A, I was shouting and encouraging my kids to pull hard, and B, MY CAMERA DIED!!!!!! Ugh. I can't even begin to describe my dismay. :(

Did your heart just go pitter-patter?
First of all, everyone knows there is NOTHING better than getting fun mail... ESPECIALLY packages!!! But a package filled with awesome school supplies?!? Every teacher's DREAM!!!! My sweetest of the sweet BBBs: Joanne from Head Over Heels For Teaching, sent me this fabulousness! And apparently, she is an EXPERT packer!! There are so many awesome things in this box of loot, but I'd say the best of it all are the paper clips in the shape of HIGH HEELS!!! So of course, now every time I use one I will think of her. :)

Joanne is just one of the reasons why blogging has been so rewarding- when I started, I never had any idea I would form the relationships I have formed! Honestly, teachers are awesome, but teacher bloggers are the BEST! Who would have thought you could form such bonds over hundreds, sometimes thousands, of miles away!? Although technology is the bane of my existence sometimes, in this case, I couldn't imagine my life without it!
I know we aren't supposed to have favorites. I love each and every one of my children. I do. But let me tell you- I have never felt more rewarded to have this job by any child than I have this year. A student came to me in September and knew NO English. NONE. Her family speaks only Spanish and is not learning English, so there is no one to help her at home. But this girl is so smart and so EAGER to learn... she has actually SURPASSED some of my ESOL students who have been here since Kindergarten. She just soaks it in like a sponge, I'm telling you!!! This is her letter she gave to me yesterday. It made me tear up a bit, I'm not gonna lie.

I hope that you all were cherished and loved and appreciated this week! You all deserve it!

THANK YOU for being wonderful friends, mentors, partners, and collaborators - I certainly appreciate all of you!! :)

  9. Wowsers what a great week!!! Funny you mentioned about relationships and blogging etc- I popped over to check out your five for friday just because I'm so used to seeing you and your comments everywhere I feel like I kind of know you and therefore had to see what you've been up to this week!

  10. Oh! That letter is SO sweet!!! Wow. I understand about the favorites. I love all my kinders, but I have one little guy from Burma that did not know any English when he started school and on Thursday he said to me, "Ms. Horn, I do not know what to do." I almost cried. He is speaking so well and I could understand him and he made himself clear. I don't know, I know I didn't have that much to do with it, but when he hugs me before he goes home everyday, it is a big deal to me.

  11. Ohhh, it sounds like you had a wonderful week, except for being sick of course! Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! :)

  14. What a fantastic letter! That is something you need to keep on hand for those not so good days when you need a little pick me up!! I am sure the two of you will have a blast at the concert - I'm sure JT will pull you up on stage to dance with him!! I'm glad you had a great week - you totally deserve it!

  15. I've been an emotional wreck all day, so your letter did make me cry. It reminds me of my favorite quote, "...because I was important in the life of a child." You are important to her, and she likes you. Best gift ever!

Jealous about the J.T. tics! I got to see him once from a really high balcony seat when he was with N*SYNC!

  16. You know you're a teacher when Post It Notes make you happy. Gotta love school supplies!

  17. What a sweet letter and yes, I would love a package like that as well! The tug of war is always a huge deal at my school...we have this one teacher who is determined to have her class win every year. They actually watch you tube videos and practice.

  18. What a super week you had! Thank you for such kind words! I loved sending that package because I knew how excited you'd get and I wanted to show my appreciation to you! You've helped me a lot and are always encouraging me! (I knew you'd like those paper clips!!) So glad I "met" you! And, you're right, blogging friends are the best!

  20. Loved the letter! I love all my peanuts, but every year you are going to have one or two little's who just worm their way in a little deeper. Have SO much fun at your concert!

  21. I was sick for Teacher's Appreciation Week too. Four days of it! At least on the last day I got what I really wanted; my class worked hard on their MCAS test, hehe. That letter is so sweet and amazing. Sounds like your Teacher's Appreciation Week got better as it went on too. :)

  22. Wow! Your week didn't start off so great, but I think the finish MORE than made up for it! Thanks for sharing that letter- it reminds all of us what teaching is really all about!

    P.S.- Justin...I'm so jealous! :)

  23. Every year (I've been teaching for 200 years) there is always one child who I know would have been my bestest buddy in kindergarten. But there is something special about each one, truly. You have to start a "Wall of Love" near your desk where you post these little treasures. I have one and on tough days it keeps me going! Your blog is wonderful and I am so glad to find you!

  24. Even sick a day it sounds like a fun week! JT and high heel paperclips? Sounds good to me!

    Enjoy your weekend,
